Walked into the art class and the place felt better more held and calm, not to much activity. I saw the clay hippos we had left upside down last week to dry and turned them all around and they all stood on there legs very well. I felt hopeful as the kids were handling the clay so much better there was a generous sculptural feel of moulding and creating.
Then I went down to the main hall to catch up with the people I knew. I asked Ryan up to continue our conversation from last week just to get to know him better. Conversation has a much better ring to it than interview it doesn’t sound as clinical. I then made up the ten stations for the kids. I was feeling hungry and tired but organizing a paint pallet, colours, brushes, water , paper and a cloth made me feel better. Everything was organized and I would have place to put the kids when they came.
I used a lesson I had learn from Sanet as the learners needed to start mixing graduations of colour and picking up subtlest. These nuance’s in colour create depth in a painting. Blue Mountain is very simple. You hand out pics of mountains receding into the white distance and explain how to paint each range from dark in the foreground to light at the back.
The learners looked calmer after the class. They had sat with each other and talked quietly but also stayed internal while they worked. There was a moment in the middle of the class when I sat behind my desk and watched them, each at there station working. It felt calm and peaceful. I hope to get it to last longer next time.
