Active Woman

This body of work was generated between 2016 – 2020. It started when I brought a flat in Muizenberg. I thought of spending the money on seducing a society man but the flat seemed more bachelor. It gave the promise of an independent life and the time and pressure to cause me to get work. The promise of being a female bachelor that could win a man that was her equal.

I was introduced to a creative community of life drawing and community art classes. I went out to Ottery and set up a classroom where I could start getting in contact with learners and making art. I continued the classes for one year. I lived in my flat in Muizenberg and did a lot of walking to process time. The fragments of this period are brought together as I track time with painting. An indulgence first and then a habit to get through images process things as I noticed what rises from the subconscious. Where my eye goes, which image I choose and develop. Building a map going forward and backward in time. Play and assessment always looping. Constantly going back and rechoosing in the past as I get more clarity of vision and focus as I move forward. An endless stream of paintings, my instagram account helps me as well. I put an image up everyday of something I have done or brings me joy.
